Based on the video quality you want to achieve and
the retention period of your video recordings, calculate the storage
space that you need for each NAS volume you want to create on your
NAS.
Make sure that you are the administrator on your NAS
device, because only administrators can create NAS volumes. Also, the
administrator must have read and write access on the NAS.
If you create users for each NAS, make sure to give
them access to their respective volumes. See the product documentation provided
by your NAS manufacturer for instructions on how to create users.
What you should know
You can only have a maximum of one camera record
on a NAS volume. Each NAS volume can store a maximum of 2 TB of video files, and you
can only associate a maximum of 16 cameras per NAS device.
For the latest information about your Buffalo NAS, refer
to the Buffalo website and the product documentation that is provided with your
device.
Procedure
To create a volume on your Buffalo NAS:
Using the IP address, connect to your Buffalo TeraStation NAS and log in.
Click Drives
> LVM.
Select the disk that you want to create the volume on, and then click
Enable LVM on Volume.
Click Edit , and enter a name and the
storage capacity of the NAS volume. The name you enter
here does not have to be the same as the name you will enter when adding your
NAS volume to Stratocast™.
Important:To ensure
that your video recordings are kept for the duration of their respective
retention periods, and that storage space is used efficiently, it is
recommended to properly calculate the storage space that you need for
each NAS volume that you create.
Click OK to complete the
configuration.
Repeat these steps to create additional NAS volumes.
Click File sharing
> Folder setup.
Expand Folder setup and click Create Folder.
Enter a unique name for the shared folder. This is the shared folder name that
you must specify when adding the NAS volume to Stratocast™.
Important:You must only define one
shared folder per NAS volume, and the name of the shared folder must be unique.
In the Recycle Bin field, select
Disabled.
CAUTION: Because the recycle bin is located within the NAS volume,
deleted video files remain inside the volume and therefore take up valuable
storage space. As a result, it is recommended to disable the recycle bin
option when first creating the shared folder on the NAS volume.
Click OK.
Example
Let's assume that you have a NAS device with a
total storage capacity of 1 TB and you want to store the video recordings from four
video units onto this NAS. The desired video quality from each of the four video
units is the same, and the retention period of the video recordings is also the
same. As a result, you can create four unique NAS volumes on your NAS device, and
set a storage capacity of 250 GB for each volume. In this scenario, 250 GB of
storage space is allocated to each video unit.
After you finish
Add the NAS volume for your Buffalo TeraStation NAS to Stratocast™.
